Bio

Ali Sutton is the Chief of the Housing, Homelessness and Civil Rights Branch at the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), where she is responsible for the implementation, administration, and management of over $100 million allocated to counties for homeless services for individuals and families. She also oversees CDSS’s Civil Rights Unit, which is responsible for ensuring CDSS and local county welfare department (CWD) compliance with federal and state civil rights law. In her CDSS capacity, Sutton currently serves on the Governor's Homeless Coordinating and Financing Council and the No Place Like Home Advisory Committee. Before joining CDSS, Sutton was a senior advisor to the acting assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families. She earned a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley and Bachelor degree from the University of Iowa.
