Bio

Stephens is a principal researcher at America’s Essential Hospitals. She brings more than 15 years of experience in managing, designing, and conducting health services research. Specializing in qualitative analysis, Stephens has collaborated with health care executives, policymakers, clinicians, and patients in a variety of settings to build organizational capacity, improve consumer engagement, and evaluate programs and communications. Stephens previously served on the board of directors of Good Shepherd Housing, a nonprofit aiming to reduce homelessness through affordable stable housing and emergency grants to prevent evictions. Before joining America’s Essential Hospitals, Stephens founded a health research firm. She also served for 10 years as project manager at the American Institutes for Research and as an adolescent health educator and case manager for HIV-positive adolescents at Boston Medical Center. Stephens holds a bachelor’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree from Boston University School of Public Health.
